We are excited to announce our first call for papers for the No.Iek/2024 issue Decolonising  Gadje Narratives,” featured in Romnja Magazine, the heart of the Romnja Feminist Library. Our No.Iek/2024 issue theme aims to enlighten Romani women and girls unique and diverse experiences and to encourage meaningful dialogue around crucial topics.

About us

The Romnja Feminist Library serves as a platform for knowledge production, centering the past, present, and future of Roma Feminism. Our mission extends beyond being a repository of information; we aim to create spaces for Romani women and girls and give visibility to the multitude of Romani women writers, researchers, activists, students, and girls who face challenges in publishing their work within an industry predominantly dominated by white cis men.

We invite submissions from Roma women and girls across Europe to contribute to our upcoming publication. Topics may include, but are not limited to:

  • Gender and migration
  • Body and sexuality
  • Feminists and LBQ women navigating mainstream spaces
  • Narratives of Roma women in crisis
  • Transgenerational voices of Roma Girls

Importance of chosen topics: These topics were chosen for their significance in the lives of Roma women and girls. Recognizing the lack of representation in mainstream narratives, this call aims to address and rectify the absence of perspectives from Roma women and girls on these important topics.

1. Iek means one in Romani language. In alignment with our commitment to resisting linguistic colonization, we intentionally incorporate words in the Romani language throughout our content. This serves as an act of reclamation and preservation, acknowledging the cultural significance and resilience of the Romani communities.

2.  Gadje – means non-Roma in Romani language.
